Lavender Essential Oil

Where do I start with lavender? When my massage therapist mom first gave this oil to me to use with my infant son almost 14 years ago, I was immediately hooked. Mix 2-3 drops with about 50 ml of a carrier oil and voila, you have a happy, relaxed baby who smells great!

Fast forward 14 years: it’s useful for helping kids (and adults) sleep, spraying through the house to improve mood and kill germs, and is great for skin care (super for mature skin)

It comes from the Latin word lavare, which means “to wash”…need I say more?

The plant grows like a weed (though, as I mentioned before, I somehow have trouble growing it) and can be bought very cheaply…it grows abundantly in the Pacific Northwest in the United States, in England, and, perhaps most famously, in the south of France.

Top Ten uses of this oil:

1. As a sedative

2. To relieve depression, insomnia, migraine, nervous tension

3. To help with bronchitis

4. To help with stomach ache

5. To help with bad breath

6. For any skin condition: it can help with acne, eczema, baldness…anything!

7. For colic in infants

8. For ear ache in infants

9. To help in childbirth to calm the mother and for a speedy delivery without increasing the strength of contractions

10. For insect stings and bites (in this case, rub a little directly on the bite or sting)
