Diffusers: So many choices!

There are so many choices for essential oil diffuser out there…I have to admit to being one of the least gadgety people I know, so my choice for diffusers is the very simple yet effective tea light diffuser. In this model, you just put your oil in the little indented bowl on the top of the diffuser, and place a little tea light candle below…not too difficult. I have had great success with these little guys. Many people complain that they don’t disseminate the fragrance widely enough, but for my purposes, 2 work just fine in my home. I have also heard the criticism that the heat changes the scent. This is true, of course, and for the afficianado, I am sure there are good reasons for never wanting the scent to change. This site is so not for that person : ) there are tons of places to go if you care about scent in that way.

Other choices for essential oil diffuser

Ah, yes…but you may well want other choices. I understand. first of all, my best recommendation is to go to this wonderful shop (it’s online!) and look around. Quite honestly, there is tons out there to choose from. The cold air diffusers are better…my mom may give me one soon and then I may start raving about its greatness…but they are a bit expensive and, to me so far, a little bit more than the home user needs (My mom used hers for her massage therapy, but, as she is beginning to move into nutritional therapy more than massage, may not need it anymore.)

Now that you have more information than you need about my life and my essential oil diffuser choices, let’s move on:

There are several methods for essential oil diffusion. You can, and I have, simply drop a couple drops on a light bulb (the old fashioned kind, that heats up) I know, I have read and read about how this can break the light bulb, and I certainly wouldn’t do this in my childrens’ bedrooms, but a light bulb has never broken on my watch. I am not recommending that anyone should do this, of course. The light bulb may indeed break, and you could, very easily, get hurt.

You can also, to great effect, simply place a few drops on a handkerchief and carry the scent with you. I do use this method when I am anxious. I just carry a little handkerchief (in my case, this is just a scrap of cotton) and hold the cloth to my nose when I need it. It’s kind of like a security blanket for grownups.

Heating a pot of water on the stove and placing a few drops of oil in the pot works, too. Yes, this isn’t the purest way to diffuse your oils, but it works. It can make the entire kitchen smell beautiful in a short time. This steamy method is also my preferred way if the family has all got congestion or colds. Works really well, in my opinion.
